I'm a technical writer and a jazz musician. Tech writing pays the bills and keeps my mind sharp. Musically, my primary interests are jazz and the popular music of the first half of the twentieth century. I play the cornet, mostly. I know next to nothing about popular music since 1964, despite not being that old. This bothers some people, and baffles others.
Other than that, I have a strong affinity for the horror genre and exploitation films. Some favorite authors (currently): Ambrose Bierce, E. A. Poe*. Some favorite directors: Takeshi Miike, Dario Argento, Mario Bava, Roger Corman. I think that radio is the perfect medium for horror, and that Wyllis Cooper is the greatest master of horror that ever lived, despite the fact that most people have never heard of him, because he only worked in radio.
* Monsieur Ernest Valdemar is the title character in Poe's The Facts in the Case of M Valdemar. He is the anti-zombie -- all consciousness and no animation. I feel a certain kinship.
